Customer Support III-SMART Systems Implementation Specialist

This is a full-time position that assists in the PK-12 Public School environment by implementing new features in the SMART Systems Application, also includes testing of SMART Systems

Responsibilities: This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: implementing and training new features in the SMART Systems Application, testing of SMART Systems and general SMART System Software support.


  • Work with regional clients to implement new features in the software system
  • Train clients on new features and how to maintain data going forward
  • Ensure member districts understand and use features of the software to make their office more efficient
  • Provide feedback and assist in development of new features in SMART Systems
  • Test any new features and enhancements in SMART Systems
  • Test software releases (releases are done semiannually
  • Schedule and host webinars which will inform member districts of changes in the system to coincide with semiannual releases
  • Create training videos to be featured on our support site for common support questions
  • Provide helpdesk support for SMART

Job Qualifications: 

  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment; must include Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Some travel required - Must have valid driver's license
  • PK-12 Finance, HR, or Payroll experience required
  • SMART Finance/HR Software experience desirable

Educational Experience: 

  • Minimum two-year post-secondary training in business field.

Apprentice Software Developer

In the Spring of 2018, cmERDC's Apprenticeship Program was approved by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry. At this time, our Apprenticeship positions have been filled. Please check back with us for future opportunities.

An Apprentice Software Developer works with our software development team on web and database development of our K-12 software solutions. This position combines job-related technical instruction, mentoring, and on-the-job learning experiences. Below is a description of the qualifications and responsibilities of this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Coding and testing software programs

  • Assisting in debugging software application issues

  • Maintaining, tuning and repairing software applications

  • Documenting software changes/improvements

  • Participating in execution and documentation of software testing

  • Executing software application conversions/upgrades

  • Assisting in the integration of data into software applications

  • Assisting in design of software changes and enhancements

  • Participating in the analysis of technical application requirements

Data Warehouse Specialist/Developer

We are currently seeking a Data Warehouse Specialist/Developer to design, develop, implement and support Viewpoint®, our K-12 data warehouse solution, and data integration utilities. This position will work with Product Specialists, our customers and other software developers to maintain and enhance our products and services.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, implement and maintain ETL (extract, transform, load) processes to extract data from Student Information Systems, assessment systems and other customer data sources and convert extracted data into formats required by data warehouse solution.

  • Ensure data accuracy.

  • Conduct root cause analysis and resolve production problems and data issues.

  • Write stored procedures for loading data and generating reports.

  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain web (and desktop) based solutions to enhance and monitor the ETL processes for collecting data, staging data, cleansing data, standardizing data, and publishing data into our data warehouse solution.

  • Provide regular written and verbal communications to management, team and customers concerning projects and efforts. Provide input into team planning and direction.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in MIS or related field required. Additional technology related experience may be used in lieu of higher education (two years of experience in lieu of each year of higher education).

  • Experience working with data stored in a relational database environment. Minimum of four years' experience or equivalent proficiency with SQL database technology.

  • Solid understanding of data, database structures, data warehousing concepts and data modeling.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with school district data.

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Edition including Microsoft SSIS.

  • Experience working with spreadsheet applications to assist in importing data.

  • Programming experience using C# and Microsoft Visual Studio.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple competing tasks at the same time.
